Vanessa Versiani: Starting with basic information’s. Talk about yourself, telling us your name, age, profession, city where u live, and other important information about you.
Nicklas: Well hello, Vanessa! My name is Nicklas Nyman. I`m 27 years old and I`m a musician/construction worker from Helsinki Finland.
You gotta pay your rent… Right?
Vanessa Versiani: What’s the musical style you play? Why did you choose this style?
Nicklas: I really don`t think anyone chooses a style. If you wanna look good you have to let the style choose you, then it really fits.
This works in many categories, such as image and so on.
Vanessa Versiani: When did u start working as musician? How do u deal with your personal image after beginning your career as a singer/musician? Do you think it’s important to musicians to take care of personal image and appearance?
Nicklas: Hmm… I`ve been singing and playing the guitar since I was 4 years old but I guess you could say I started getting money for it at 14, as a troubadour. (Money = Work and vice versa) Since music always been a part of my life, I don`t separate “Personal” and “Singer” Image.
I guess it`s just because I don`t have any sense in fashion, so why pretend that I do. You know?
I think it`s very important to take care of your image and appearance, of course! Nobody likes to look at a hobo. Even if he`s got a good voice;-)
Vanessa Versiani: What does “fashion” mean to you?
Nicklas: Like I said, no sense of fashion. But I think I have a good idea what looks good on me, so I go with that. With a little help, no. With VERY much help from my personal stylist. She`s pretty much responsible for the things I wear. In fact, I think you should interview her and not me in this case. Kinda sidetracked there… Fashion to me means: looking good.
Vanessa Versiani: What’s your personal style? How do u use to wear or what do u like to wear? Day by day u wear the same kind of clothes u wear in your shows and professional compromises? If you say yes, tell me how different it is and what makes the difference between both styles. (Note: Sorry, after read your answer I read the question again… the idea was “if you say NO, tell me how different it is and what makes the difference between both styles… I’m really sorry but u understand the question.. thanks)
Nicklas: I don`t really understand the question, but I`ll try. Rock n`Roll is my style. And I`ll wear anything as long as it looks good.
Yes, of course I use my nr.1 clothes on stage and in the public eye. And the difference in this case may be that I wouldn`t go on stage in my sweat pants.
Vanessa Versiani: Have u ever had some fashion consultant, image consultant or personal stylist to help you? If you had, tell me why and what did u think about the job this person did. If you had not, tell me why.(I read something about a personal stylist who tried to do something with the band and it was not good… but it was some months ago…but you can talk about this experience, other professional experiences and personal experiences too).
Nicklas: Yeah, we had these 2 f..kups who tried to make us into some goddamn(Sorry, I get really angry every time I even think about them) new age hippie horse loving fruitcakes… That`s OK if you like that kind of style, but you can`t honestly expect any self-respecting rocker in this world to put on that crap. They were terrible fashion consultants. They tried to make us wear the clothes THEY like, and not the other way around. Lucky for us, the record company saw that too and gave them the BOOT!
As I mentioned earlier, I have the Gray-test stylist now. So I`m very lucky.
Vanessa Versiani: What’s the most important fashion features where you live? How is the style of wearing of other musicians who plays the same music style that you (around the world)? How does it influences your way to wear yourself?
Nicklas: I really have no idea. But I`ve noticed that the Gothic/Rock/Punk image is really starting to show all around Finland. Not just with the teenagers, also ages like 18-40. Which is nice.
I don`t really compare my style to other people`s styles… It`s a personal thing.
On the other hand, if I do see a well dressed artist, I most likely get some ideas. You know? Just like hair styles, same thing.
Vanessa Versiani: What would you say to somebody who wants to be a musician (about image, career, etc)?
Nicklas: Just do what feels right. Who am I to judge? In every situation. Don`t try to be something you`re not. It might feel OK for a while but in the end you`ll just loose yourself. And that`s not the way to live your life, I think. At least I can swear it`s not My way.
Love yourself. Peace.
Thank you, very much, Vanessa! Kisses from Hellsinki!
Vanessa Versiani: Nicklas, you did your best and I liked it so much. It was great to know a little bit more about you.
Kisses from Curitiba!

Comments (added at september 10th, 2008):
I had first contact with Nicklas around one year ago. I was seeing something at Entwine’s profile at My Space and I found his picture and clicked to see his profile. Then I decided to know his band and they’re very good. Sometimes I send some messages and Nicklas is very polite and answer anything I wrote to him. I like this kind of behaviour.
I like Carmen Gray’s sense of fashion. They have a natural look, doesn’t look like they’re pretending to be something they’re not.
Nicklas says he doesn’t know about fashion but he knows… at least he knows the most important: how to be well dressed according to his own style.
I am very curious about the images of this time they were with that horrible persoal stylists…
And I think is very important to pay attention to the style of the person we’re trying to dress and not think about the things I like and put it in the person’s wardrobe. It’s not correct. A good personal stylist do what his “gray-test” personal stylist do. Other way is not professional.
